Packing list

Here is our full Classic USA packing list. You’ll notice there are a few asterisks (*) alongside some of the items. This is because these things are mandatory. We have a list of mandatory items because, for safety reasons, it’s vital you have your own gear. But, mandatory equipment may be shared with your fellow trekkers if you’re trekking in a group.

  • 65-75lr backpack* with rain protection cover
  • Three-season sleeping bag*
  • Tent*
  • Stove* for boiling water (Primus ETA, Jetboil, etc.)
  • Matches/lighter and gas*
  • Small towel
  • Water bottle or hydration bladder*, minimum 1L or larger
  • Water filter (Grayl water filter is provided)
  • Small knife with scissors or a multi-tool
  • Toiletries
  • All waste must be packed out. Wag bags will be provided to each participant. In addition, there will be port-a-johns (portable toilets) located at each campsite.
  • Map* and compass*
  • Head lamp
  • Sunglasses
  • First aid kit* including dressings, plasters, tape, painkillers and disinfectant
  • Thermal base layers for top and bottom
  • Trekking socks, preferably in wool
  • A change of shoes or flip flops/sandals to give your feet a break
  • Underwear in wool or in a synthetic material
  • Hat/beanie
  • Gloves
  • Sun hat/cap
  • Rain/shell jacket
  • Rain/shell trousers
  • A warm fleece/mid layer in down or a synthetic material
  • Trekking trousers, a pair that can be unzipped to become shorts are ideal – it does get warm up there sometimes
  • T-shirt
  • Trekking boots
  • Trekking poles
  • Bear canister* (provided)
